Blog: Social networking sites

For this week's assignment I visited Facebook,Twitter, Instagram, and Tumblr. A common thing between these 4 sites is the fact that you have to register in order to access all of the features. Every platform has an easily understood interface and aren't clunky. My impression of Facebook is that it's sort of becoming outdated, as people do not really use or post on Facebook anymore. Facebook is still a necessity, however it is not being used as much anymore. Facebook however is unique in that every user has a "wall" that people can post onto. Twitter is one of the social medias of choice today for a lot of people, especially Millennials and Gen Z. With real time updates, news, and ability to contact millions of people, Twitter has an amazing outreach potential. Another increasingly popular social media platform is Instagram. Originally a strictly photo focused platform, Instagram has evolved to one of the biggest current social media platforms. With networking, jobs, news, and more on Instagram, more and more people move to Instagram as an all in one platform. My impression of Tumblr is that it's close to Instagram. People run blogs and pages and they are all focused on photos and videos. However ,Tumblr lacks the inter-connectivity that the other three platforms provide. While the other three are more focused on connecting people directly, Tumblr is a place for people with similar interests to find content.
